Occipital dermoid cyst associated with dermal sinus and cerebellar abscesses.

چکیده
sinus is a rare entity, with fewer than 20 cases reported in the literature1. We describe the unique computed tomogram (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging findings of an infant presenting with cerebellar abscesses and secondary obstructive hydrocephalus resulting from an occipital dermoid cyst with a complete dermal sinus, confirmed at operation. Early neurosurgical intervention is advocated to prevent the ongoing risk of significant complications, including cerebellar abscess formation, hydrocephalus and bacterial meningitis. The importance of cross sectional imaging in the assessment of dural venous sinus anatomy in relation to the pre-operative planning of posterior fossa dermoid cysts is discussed.

Occipital dermal sinus associated with dermoid cyst in the fourth ventricle.
MR was helpful in demonstrating the spatial relationship between a dermoid cyst in the fourth ventricle and an occipital dermal sinus. T1-weighted images clearly showed the mixed hypointense mass in the fourth ventricle and above the vermis, which appeared to be connected to an occipital dermal dimple.
متن کاملSpinal congenital dermal sinus--experience of 5 cases over a period of 10 years.
Spinal congenital dermal sinus (CDS) is a rare entity which supposedly results from the failure of the neuroectoderm to separate from the cutaneous ectoderm during the process of neurulation. The lesions are most frequent at the lumbosacral followed by the occipital region. CDS of the thoracic region is very rare. The patients with spinal CDS present with meningitis and/or mass effect from the ...
متن کاملTemporal dermoid cyst with a partial dermal sinus tract.
BACKGROUND Cranial dermal sinuses are rare and occur most frequently in the posterior fossa and along the midline. Likewise, supratentorial dermoid cysts are very uncommon. METHOD We report a unique case of an adult female patient with both a supratentorial dermoid cyst and an incomplete dermal sinus tract. RESULTS The patient is a 31-year-old female, who presented with a new onset complex ...
متن کاملCongenital dermal sinus and cyst in adulthood.
Dermal sinus tracts are formed during the 26th day of gestation from the incomplete closure of cutaneous ectoderm from neural ectoderm.1-5 As remnants of incomplete neural tube closure, they are often associated with dermoid and epidermoid cysts, spinal cord tethering and spinal fluid drainage.1,2,6-8 As such, dermal sinus tracts are diagnosed during early childhood.2,8 These entities most freq...
متن کاملNasal Dermal Sinus Associated with a Dumbbell-Shaped Dermoid: A Case Report
Nasal dermal sinus is a rare congenital anomaly. We report a case of the dermal sinus associated with a dumbbell-shaped dermoid and demonstrate the detailed anatomy. The patient was a boy aged 1 year and 4 months with a small pit at his nasion from birth and developed swelling of the forehead. The sagittal view of a T2-weighted image demonstrated a dumbbell-shaped, mixed intense dermoid at the ...
